Gentle Brutality is both a concert and a dance performance, which calls for a (r)evolution of oppressed bodies. Structural oppressions are embedded in unquestioned norms, symbols, and systems. How can oppressed bodies be a resource for resistance and empowerment? Based on Dan Su’s ‘Lazy Body’ practice, Gentle Brutality seeks an aesthetic and methodology to reclaim the autonomy of the marginalized body, in its relation to the environment.
The original music score consists of synthesizers, vocals, drones, noise, and broken beats. It is inspired by the constant fluctuation of longing, clamness, and departure in the state of oppression, which is also visualized through the choreography.
